Avifauna of the upper marshes of the Pripyat region is a real paradise for bird lovers, where majestic gray cranes occupy a special place. These graceful birds with distinctive silver‑gray plumage and long legs choose swampy areas for nesting and resting during migrations. In spring and autumn, their shrill trumpet call – one of the most recognizable sounds of the wild – can be heard over the expanses of the swamps. Cranes build their nests in hard-to-reach areas among moss hummocks and shallow channels, where they feel safe. Watching them, you can see complex ritual dances-paired demonstrations, accompanied by flapping wings and jumping. In addition to gray cranes, the marshes are also home to other birds: black storks, gray herons, various types of waders and ducks are found here. However, it is the cranes that, thanks to their expressive appearance and behavior, become the main «stars» of the excursion on the upper swamp, allowing guests to truly feel the breath of the untouched nature of the Pripyat region.
