Ancient riverbeds are a fascinating excursion object that clearly demonstrates the dynamics of river landscapes. Rivers never stay in place: gradually meandering (twisting), they pave new paths, and the former channels turn into «abandoned» channels. These natural artifacts are preserved on the ground as elongated depressions-sometimes barely noticeable, sometimes quite deep.
In spring, during the flood period, the ancient riverbeds come to life: meltwater fills them, and they temporarily turn into full-flowing forest rivers. At this point, the former borders of the watercourse, its bends and old trees are especially clearly visible. Water runs through them again, streams roar, coastal vegetation comes to life-as if nature returns the river to its former bed for a short time.
Such channels are not just traces of geological history: they serve as corridors for the migration of aquatic organisms, nesting sites for birds, and sources of moisture for the forest. Watching them, you can literally «read» the history of the landscape and see how the river has shaped the surrounding world over the centuries.
