Muravinskoe interglacial outcrop

Muravinskoe interglacial outcrop

Pripyatsky National Park

Muravinskoe Interglacial outcrop – is a unique natural object that opens a window to the distant past: the visitor sees a peat layer about 115,000 years old, preserved from the time when a lake was located on this site, and then a low-lying swamp. In the exposed layers, you can see fragments of an ancient ecosystem – plant remains, pieces of wood, seeds and other organic inclusions preserved over time. This is a kind of «chronicle» of nature, allowing you to see what the local vegetation was like during the interglacial period, and understand how the landscape gradually changed. The site provides a rare opportunity to literally touch the millennial history of Polesie and appreciate the slow but inexorable processes of formation of swamp ecosystems.
