The Sea of Herodotus water route will give you a unique journey through the endless floods of the Pripyat River – a natural phenomenon that ancient chronicles may have captured as a legendary sea. Floating on the mirror surface, you will plunge into a fabulous landscape: a flooded willow forest, where hundred–year–old trees seem to be frozen in clear water; emerald floodplain meadows that show through the flood; mysterious ancient lakes that keep the silence of centuries.
At each turn of the route, a new picture of wildlife is revealed. There are many migratory birds in the sky and on the water: graceful swans, scurrying ducks, important geese, brooding herons and brisk sandpipers. You will be lucky enough to witness their spring mating games – a unique performance that nature plays out only once a year. Sometimes you can spot the majestic white‑tailed eagle, the largest bird of prey in Belarus, among the trees.
The path passes cozy beaver huts: you will be able to observe the hardworking owners, appreciate their engineering skills and learn how these tireless builders are changing the face of the floodplain. Submerged oaks and centuries–old willows create bizarre mazes where water meets forest, and each bend of the riverbed opens up a new perspective on this wonderful world – sometimes mirrored, then gloomy, then dazzling sunny.
This trip is not just a rafting trip, but a dive into the heart of Polesie, where the river brings ancient landscapes to life, birds fill them with voices, and nature reminds you how beautiful and fragile its seasonal symphony is. «The Sea of Herodotus» reveals its secret to you – and leaves in your memory images that cannot be forgotten.
The water route is conducted only with a guide on different routes depending on the water level.
