Mayak Hill is the premier vantage point in Braslavskie Ozyora National Park, and the “Mayak Hill” nature trail begins at its base. This unique natural feature—located between Lakes Snudy and Strusto—offers breathtaking panoramic views of exceptionally picturesque lake landscapes dotted with islands and shoals.
“Mayak Hill” is a classic glacial kame: a steep-sided, dome-shaped hill composed of sorted, layered glacial deposits. Its absolute elevation is 174 meters above sea level, and it rises 44.7 meters above the adjacent lakes.
In the early 20th century, surveyors erected a triangulation tower on the summit, which locals nicknamed the “lighthouse” (“Mayak” in Russian). Prior to that, the hill was known as “Biznya Hill.”
The central part of the national park showcases both positive landforms (such as kames and eskers) and negative landforms (like lake basins and sinkholes)—a rare low-mountain landscape in this otherwise flat region.
A modern observation tower was built in 2020; admission is required.
