Floodplain oak

Floodplain oak

Pripyatsky National Park

«Floodplain oak forests» – a true gem of the national park, which has no analogues in Belarus and Europe. This is one of the largest preserved complexes of oak forests, whose life is inextricably linked with the river: every spring during floods, the trees are submerged in water for many weeks, demonstrating amazing adaptability to floodplain conditions.

This unique landscape is a true open-air oak museum. Here you can learn in detail about the biology of the mighty tree, its key role in the ecosystem and its cultural component for Polesie: in Polesie, the oak was revered from ancient times as a symbol of strength and longevity, appeared in rituals and beliefs, and was an integral part of the local way of life.

A walk through the floodplain oak forests leaves an unforgettable impression: majestic trunks, sprawling crowns, the play of light and shadow, silence broken only by the singing of birds. This is a place where nature reveals its power and harmony, and the visitor feels the grandeur of centuries-old oaks-living witnesses of the history of Polesie.
